Earning Bonus Uber Cash Just for Photographing Your Food Order

Thanks to our Amex Platinum card’s Uber Cash credits, once a month, my wife and I enjoy getting ourselves some Uber Eats. These days, that often means picking up some delicious Cold Stone Creamery (Cake Batter Ice Cream, brownies, caramel, Golden Oreos, and cinnamon. Thank me later), but we do order real food from time to time as well. That’s how we recently stumbled across an offer from Uber Eats that allows you to score a bonus just for submitting a photo of your food.

While ordering from a local Chinese spot a few weeks back, my wife noticed a note in the app saying we could earn $5 Uber Cash if we ordered certain items and photographed them. At the time, there were a couple of specific menu items they were offering this for. Luckily, one of them sounded good enough to her, so we decided to give it a try.

Taking our mission seriously, the first thing we did upon getting home with the food was snap our photos. To assist, Uber provided some tips for getting a good shot. From there, I could submit the image in the interface below where you review the order and set your tip. By the way, you can submit photos of your other items too, but only eligible items will earn the bonus.

Now is also a good time to note that Uber’s terms state that you’ll only get the $5 “if selected.” The full statement actually reads, “If your photo meets our standards and is selected for the restaurant’s menu, you’ll receive Uber Cash.” I’m not sure if this just means that your photo needs to meet their basic criteria or if there’s a chance you could be in competition with other customers. Because of this, you might not want to get your hopes too high or order something you don’t really want just to claim this Uber Cash.

Luckily for us, our photo was approved and our bonus was added to my balance. Moreover, we noticed that our photo was featured on that restaurant’s listing afterward — which I suppose was the entire point, huh? Anyway, although Uber says this can take two weeks, it was only three days for us.

One other “catch” of sorts to note is that the Uber Cash you earn expires in 30 days. That wasn’t a problem for us as it stacked nicely with our Amex Platinum Uber Cash, but keep this in mind so you don’t let your bonus go to waste.

Obviously, I can’t speak to how often these photo bonus opportunities pop up. However, if you do see one while browsing an Uber Eats menu, it may be worth taking advantage of. After all, it’s pretty easy money… even if it just means you’ll need to place another food order in the next month in order to use it.
