Fold - Welcome to the Metaverse

Fold Now Offers an AR Game Where You Can Win Free Sats

Late last year, I discovered an app called Fold that allows you to buy gift cards for top brands and earn Bitcoin back for your purchases. Then, this summer, I tried out their Bitcoin rewards debit card, which — while I was fairly lukewarm on it overall — does have some pretty interesting features and gamification aspects. On that note, Fold’s latest endeavor is an augmented reality (AR) game called Enter the Metaverse. Built into the Fold app itself, this experience is yet another way for users to score free Sats.

Fold - Mine the Block

If you’re not familiar with AR itself, you’ve likely heard about it in the context of Snapchat filters, Pokemon Go, or other such examples. In any case, to play, you’ll need to grant Fold access to your smartphone’s camera. By doing so, you’ll be able to explore and interact with items you’ll see on your phone screen that will appear as though they’re in your actual environment — hence the term “augmented reality.”

When you launch the game, your first task will be to turn around, find the block, and tap it until it bursts. Once it does, you’ll find a variety of items that will spill out around the room. These include Sats (represented by shiny, gold Bitcoins), diamonds, orange pills, spins, and more. But watch out — because there are also some items you won’t want to tap, such as the purple poison pills or, um, s*** coins. The latter are the trickiest for me as they aren’t always so easily discernable from Sats and deplete what you’ve saved up.

In terms of strategy, there are a couple of different plans of attack. The first option, as I see it, is to face the block you just mined and tap items as they fly out. While this is effective for capturing as many items as possible with your limited time, it also increases the likelihood that you’ll tap one of the negative items. Thus, my preferred play method is to wait until the items hit their marks and then take my time to assess them before collecting.

Fold - You hit the limit!

I should note that there is a limit to how many Sats you can earn per day using the metaverse game. That cap seems to be set at 50 Sats. Obviously, that doesn’t amount to very much money, but they could add up over time.

Currently, Enter the Metaverse is listed as being in beta. Because of this, I’m not clear on whether all users (including brand new ones) will have access to the game — it may even be limited to Fold Card customers at the moment. But, if you do have the chance to try it, I think it’s at least worth giving it a shot. While it may be frustrating at times, it can also be a lot of fun.
