It’s almost the first of the month and you know what that means: time for me to write about Bilt again. If you’re new, since October of last year, Bilt Rewards and the Bilt Mastercard have featured special promotions and perks on Rent Day each month. In addition to standing offers such as double points on all purchases made on the first (except on rent), there have also been a number of deals tied to brands. For example, in April, Bilt members can take advantage of a Hyatt status trial and challenge.
From now through April 1st, Bilt customers can sign up to get a free trial of Hyatt Explorist status. Personally, I can never actually remember what Hyatt’s tier names mean, but it turns out that Explorist is the third tier up, coming in above Discoverist and the generic Member levels. Just for signing up, members will get to enjoy their status through July 16th, 2023. However, if you stay a certain number of nights at Hyatt during the trial, you’ll be able to extend your benefits.
Those who stay 10 qualifying nights by the end of their trial will be able to retain Explorist status until February 28th, 2025 (note: the Bilt blog says “February 29th” but I’m pretty sure 2025 is not a Leap Year). Meanwhile, those who complete 20 qualifying nights during the challenge can elevate to top-tier Globalist status. For the record, normally, you’d need to reach 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 base points to earn Explorist and 60 qualified nights or 100,000 base points to reach Globalist.
With your status, you’ll be able to score bonus points on stays, complimentary upgrades (when available), expedited check-in and 2 p.m late check-out (when available), complimentary premium internet, complimentary bottled water, and more. Plus, you may even have a chance to match your status to other brands.
Sadly, according to Ask Sebby, the temporary status you’ll get from this trial won’t be eligible for matching to MGM. However, if you can meet the 10-night requirement to keep Explorist status, then you will be able to turn your Hyatt status into MGM Rewards Gold status. That’s significant because, as a Gold member, you can enjoy waived resort fees at MGM properties — many of which you read reviews of in my Las Vegas Content Bonanza™.
To get started with this Rent Day offer, members will first need to create a World of Hyatt account if they don’t already have one. Then, they can link their account by selecting Hyatt under the Travel tab in the Bilt app. Lastly, they can tap the “Unlock Elite World of Hyatt Trial Status” offer (available through April 1st) in order to register. According to Bilt, customers should receive a confirmation by April 17th, 2023.
Once again, Bilt’s Rent Day promotion is bringing surprises and delights to cardholders. While it’s a bit of a bummer that you can’t match this trial status to MGM, this Hyatt trial could be a great chance for travelers to earn a fairly valuable status at a much lower threshold. Then again, unless you’re already planning to spend 10 nights in a hotel this summer, the math likely points to this not being worth the trouble. Regardless, I hope that some Bilt members are able to take advantage of this deal — and I definitely look forward to what next month might bring.
