T-Mobile Money is Offering an Extended Free Trial of Greenlight
For years, T-Mobile has offered a number of “on Us” promotions. To my memory, this started with Netflix on Us (which would eventually be followed by additional streaming services) but has continued to pop up in other ways, such as new cell phone model upgrade deals. Well, now, it looks as though T-Mobile Money is also getting in on the “on Us” bit as they’ve announced an extended free trial of the family banking app Greenlight.
Before we get there, I should probably explain what T-Mobile Money is. In partnership with the FDIC-insured bank Bmt, T-Mobile offers a checking and saving account platform. While there are additional perks to be found for T-Mobile and Sprint customers, you don’t have to subscribe to either telecom in order to open an account an enjoy some basic benefits, such as earning 2.50% APY (as of April 2023) on your funds.
With that background, T-Mobile Money is now allowing customers to enjoy six free months of Greenlight. For comparison, Greenlight typically only offers a one-month free trial. Considering that Greenlight plans start at $4.99 per month, this could amount to some solid savings. On that note, it seems that the six-month free offer applies to Greenlight Core plan — although the small print refers to it as Greenlight SELECT. In any case, upgrading the plan from there will result in additional fees and customers will be charged the monthly fee for their plans after their six free months are up.
To take advantage of this offer, T-Mobile Money customers can visit the Bonus Offers page and use the specialized link for Greenlight. Then, they’ll need to connect a T-Mobile Money account as a funding source and leave it as a source for the entirety of the promotion. Currently, the deal is set to expire on October 6th, 2023.
So what if you’re already a Greenlight member and a T-Mobile Money user? Well, there’s good news as the terms read, “Existing Greenlight Customers are eligible for a $4.99/mo discount toward the Greenlight plan of their choice when they connect their T-Mobile MONEY account as the Greenlight funding source for the entirety of the promotion.”
With Greenlight SELECT (or at least the Core plan listed on the site), parents will be able to order debit cards for up to five children, set controls on said debit cards, and teach their kids about finance using the education curriculum in the app. Plus, your children will earn 1% APY on their savings, encouraging them to continue setting money aside.
If you’ve ever considered trying Greenlight and happen to be a T-Mobile Money user, this promotion could be a great opportunity to explore the platform for an extended period of time before committing. Meanwhile, if you’re not a T-Mobile Money customer, I’m not sure it’d be worth it to sign-up just to get the extra few months — but, since the T-Mobile Money account is free, I suppose there’s also not much harm in taking such a strategy. As for what T-Mobile Money “on Us” promotions could be next, I’ll be waiting to see.
