The Amex Platinum Has Special Offers for Its 40th Anniversary

American Express is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its iconic Platinum card — to the benefit of cardholders. Earlier this week, I noticed some special Amex Offers noting the 40th, but the company has now provided more details and other deals tied to this promotion.

Let’s start with those special Amex Offers including some of the ones I quickly added to my card upon seeing them.

  • Delta: $40 back after spending $180 or more on Delta flights booked via Amex Travel
  • Lululemon: Earn an additional 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (up to 4,000 points)
  • Sephora: Earn an additional 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (up to 4,000 points)
  • Hilton: $40 back after spending $180 or more

In addition to these, other offers from Hertz, JetBlue, Oceania, Wine.com, and Telecharge can also be found through August 6th. However, these offers are “while supplies last” and will only be available to Platinum cardholders who opened accounts on or before April 20th of this year.

Beyond those Amex Offers, another deal that cardholders can currently take advantage of is a transfer bonus to Hilton Honors. From now through May 31st, cardholders can get a 40% bonus when transferring MR points to Hilton. That means, for every 1 MR point, you’ll receive 2.8 Hilton Honors points (versus the regular 1:2 ratio). Incidentally, this bonus comes as Bilt Rewards just announced Hilton Honors as their latest transfer partner… with a disappointing 1:1 transfer rate. Also, once again, this perk is limited to those who had Platinum accounts on/before April 20th.

Another offer involves Amex’s Fine Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Collection programs. For a limited time, members can access a complimentary third night on eligible stays at select properties. These “select properties” include 200 or so hotels, so definitely not all FHR or Hotel Collection ones.

While these are the most usable 40th anniversary perks, it’s not where the celebration ends. For one, Amex has announced 40 Nights of Platinum where cardholders can get special access to select Resy restaurants. Additionally, at Centurion Lounge locations in the U.S., guests will find Platinum-themed cocktails and other “treats” throughout the summer.

Sure, this 40th anniversary Platinum Card celebration is mostly marketing hype, but at least there are some helpful benefits that are coming from it. Personally, I could see myself using the Lululemon deal on some new pants or perhaps booking travel with Delta or Hilton (while my wife may be interested in the Sephora one). Similarly, the Hilton transfer bonus could be pretty lucrative — especially if you’re able to combine it with Hilton’s 5th night free deal. So, if you’re an Amex Platinum member, be sure to check your Amex Offers and beyond to see what’s available.

I'm 40 and Finally Figured Out How to Properly Shave My Face
For a good portion of my mid to late 20s, I made my living pretending to be in high school for television. As it turns out, part of the reason why I could pass for younger is that I can't grow a beard to save my life. Unfortunately, this lack of growth also means that,...
