Walmart+ Has Added a ‘Whopper’ of a Membership Perk

Ever since Walmart introduced its Walmart+ subscription in 2020, the mega-retailer has continually added benefits or upgrades to the program. That streak extended recently as the company announced that they were teaming up with Burger King for a new perk.

Now, Walmart+ members can score 25% off at BK — when they place their order through the fast food chain’s app or website. Plus, members will be entitled to a free Whopper sandwich once per quarter (with the purchase of any other item). That latter perk will debut on September 16th while the 25% off deal is live right now.

As I learned when I first tried to log into BK, their platform can be pretty buggy. In particular, the service simultaneously told me that I already had an account and needed to sign in but directed me to create an account every time I tried to sign in. Anyway, after firing off an email to support, I was able to get in and see how the linking process worked.

In the BK app, tapping the three-line icon in the upper right will bring up a menu, under which you’ll find “Partnerships.” There, you’ll be able to tap “Activate” and log into your Walmart+ account to link. Once the process is complete, you should see the 25% off deal under the “Offers” tab.

While I haven’t actually used this coupon yet, I did punch up a dummy order to ensure that it worked. Unlike my initial experience logging in, I had no problem applying the discount. As for the free Whopper deal, with that perk rolling out later this month, I’m curious to see how that works — and if the two deals can be stacked. Also, since I know that a regular Whopper comes sans cheese, I sure as heck hope that I can add some American and only pay the difference.

Even though I used to be a big Burger King fan, I honestly can’t think of the last time I ate there (it was probably on a road trip). Despite that, I can’t complain about a new perk coming to a service that I already get for free. That’s right — in case you forgot — a monthly Walmart+ subscription is covered as a benefit of the American Express Platinum card. So, sure, I’ll take 25% off my BK order just for having a service I don’t pay for. Thank you very much.

I also want to point out that, in the four years that Walmart+ has existed, they haven’t hiked the price of the service. Now that I’ve jinxed that, I really don’t think that this new Burger King benefit is what’s going to push them to do so. On that note, though, I am still waiting for Walmart to roll out the Pawp pet telehealth perk it announced back in May (perhaps that feature will coincide with an increase in price?) In the meantime, the next time I do find myself headed to a BK, I’ll definitely be using this newly-instated Walmart+ feature.
