I’ve previously gone on record as saying that I end up finding a number of interesting products via Instagram ads. And today’s item is no different. Just last month, I was served an ad for a hoodie from Comfrt that boasted some intriguing features.
So, since I had a couple of upcoming trips at the time, I decided to buy a Comfrt Airplane Mode Travel Zip Hoodie for myself and see if the gimmicky outerwear had any validity.
What to Know About the Comfrt Airplane Mode Zip Hoodie
The Features
Before we get to my thoughts on the hoodie, let’s take a look at its pitch. The Airplane Mode zip model is an oversized hoodie that not only adds a few extra visible pockets on either arm but also has a pair of hidden zippered pockets. But, the true star of the Airplane Model hoodie is the built-in eye shade in the hood. This stores away to look like a normal hood when not in use, but can be easily folded down when you want to get some shut eye.
The Pricing
If you look on the Comfrt site, you’ll see that the Airplane Mode Zip Hoodie “retails” for $150. However, every time I’ve visited the site, it’s selling for $65-$69. When I bought, the color and size I wanted was $69 — but I was able to use a welcome code for a discount. Those savings were offset by $7.95 in shipping and taxes, bringing my grand total to $69.42.
By the way, there’s also a slightly cheaper pullover version, but I absolutely need my travel hoodies to be zip up (because good luck trying to get a regular sweatshirt off while sitting in an economy seat). Also, free shipping is available if you order more than one item.
Colors
As I just mentioned, the color I liked was $69. That may be because it was a limited edition color. Specifically, it was the Aloe color that caught my eye and pushed me over the edge into buying. FWIW, as of February 2026 when I’m writing this, Aloe is still shown among the limited edition colors even if it’s currently out of stock (at least as a solo item).
Beyond the frequent limited edition styles, the hoodie also comes in some core colors. These include basics such as black (obisidan), crimson, grey, navy blue, and more. There are also some camo-esque patterned versions. However, I’m very glad I was able to get my LE Aloe.
Shipping
Even though paying for shipping is never fun, to their credit, Comfrt’s shipping was pretty fast. I ordered my hoodie in the evening on December 27th, and it arrived at my door on January 3rd. That was great news for me as I was set to head to Vegas on the 4th. With that, I knew I would be rocking my new hoodie on my way to Las Vegas.
My Hands-On Experience with the Comfrt Travel Zip Hoodie
Starting with the fit of the hoodie, knowing that it was being described as “oversized,” I considered getting an extra small. Upon further reflection I decided to stick with a small — which is my usual size.
Sure enough, I do find that the hoodie is a bit baggy in spots. Yet, I don’t think the XS would have fit well either. That’s because part of the oversized nature is due to the extra pockets and features. Therefore, I’d recommend selecting your normal size but being prepared for the unique fit.
On the topic of fit, the only thing that bothers me a bit is how far the zipper comes up. In my case, it felt like zipping all the way made it so it came too far up my neck, which I didn’t love. Additionally, when I opted to leave it partially open instead, the zipper could occasionally rub against my neck. The solution to this was to make an effort to pull the entire hoodie down a bit, which did help for a time.
Digging into the features, once I learned that the Airplane Mode hoodie had (hidden) zippered pockets, that sealed the deal for me. As I’ve shared before, my current go-to travel hoodie has zippered pockets and I’ve found them to be extremely useful while flying. So, the first thing I did after getting through TSA was place my Airpods in one of the hidden pockets.
Of course, these are far from the only pockets on this hoodie. One interestingly-placed pouch is on the left arm. I’ve seen this used for a passport or even a phone in ads, but I decided to just put my following flight’s boarding pass in there instead. (Yes, I still always get a paper boarding pass when possible. Don’t @ me.) It turns out that I really liked this usage as it kept it nearby and easily accessible while also preventing it from being confused for my first flight boarding pass, which was in my main pocket.
Now for the most gimmicky element of the hoodie — and the one that I looked forward to trying on my early morning flight. To my surprise, I thought that the eye shade worked quite well! I had assumed that it would just kind of sit lazily in front of my face when pulled down. Instead, there was a pleasant snuggness that felt nice and made it more effective overall. As a result, I was able to snooze a bit on my first leg. Moreover, on the way home during a relatively turbulent ride, I found that having my hood up and shade down allowed me to stay in my own little world and retain my “zen” even when I wasn’t actually sleeping.
While I’ve only worn the Airplane Mode hoodie while heading through airports and not so much outside, it did seem to be pretty warm. Then again, as I made the dumb decision to walk around DFW for an hour, it proved to be a bit too warm, and I realized I was sweating a bit. Oops.
One other thing I’d warn you to watch out for is the fuzz. When I arrived in Vegas, I took off my hoodie to see several green (or Aloe, I guess) fuzzballs on my shirt and, subsequently, on the floor. Granted, this was after just a single wash, so I suspect this will dissipate in the future. Still, you might want to “break it in” before your first trip.
Final Thoughts on the Comfrt Airplane Mode Zip Hoodie
Overall, I really enjoyed my first experience wearing the Airplane Mode Zip Hoodie. Even if the bonus pockets and the eye shade may be gimmicky at their core, they are well-integrated and effective. At the same time, I can’t imagine loading up each pocket as seen in advertisements, as that would make a bulky hoodie even bulkier.
With that in mind, will this Comfrt hoodie replace my current favorite flight hoodie? Well, yes and no. I’ve decided that, for daytime flights where I’m unlikely to sleep or for times when I want to look a bit “savvier” (for lack of a better term), my other hoodie likely makes the most sense. However, for longer flights or early morning departures, I’ll be more than happy to take the Comfrt Airplane Mode hoodie with me.
