Need a Key Fob Battery? You Might Want to Stop at Buc-ee’s

It’s now been more than two years since I first visited Buc-ee’s. In that time, I’ve managed to visit a few more — and have also frequented their midwest rival Wally’s. Now, to my surprise, a Buc-ee’s location has opened up not more than 15 minutes from my house.

Admittedly, having a Buc-ee’s in your backyard kind of ruins the appeal. After all, what makes the place an oasis for travelers is that they have large (and clean) bathrooms, a near-infinite number of gas pumps, and plenty of snacks. That said, it is kind of nice to now have easy access to the chain’s regular merchandise as well as the boutique brands they carry — including being one of the few retail locations to offer RSVLTS. On top of that, I recently found out, they have great deals on batteries.

A few days after the Springfield Buc-ee’s debuted, my wife and I figured we’d make a late night visit to the new location. We didn’t intend on buying anything but did pick up a holiday onesie for our dog Rigby and some pajama pants for ourselves. Then, my wife remembered the message of her favorite Buc-ee’s billboard: “We Have Every Size Battery.” Naturally, we went to go see if this was true since we could use a replacement battery for our car key fob. Sure enough, they had the correct size… and at a killer price.

To our surprise, we found that the Energizer 1632 batteries we needed were a mere 0.69¢. This honestly almost seemed like a typo, but that rang up at this stated price. As you can imagine, we went ahead and bought two (one for each of our keys).

Now, since this was a brand new Buc-ee’s, I did wonder if maybe it was part of some special sale. But, as luck would have it, our travels soon after took us to a couple of other Buc-ee’s locations. Just as we experienced in Springfield, both locations we visited also offered the batteries for 0.69¢. Meanwhile, looking online at sites like Target, these same batteries go for around $6.

Even though Buc-ee’s is expanding, I realize they aren’t too widespread just yet. Therefore, it’s not as though everyone can act on this money-saving tip. However, if you are driving by a Buc-ee’s and happen to need a car fob battery, it may be worth a stop. Also, while I don’t recall the exact price for a 24-pack of other AA or AAA batteries, they also struck me as being a pretty good deal. So, in addition to filling up your tank, using the restroom, and buying some fudge, you might also want to stock up on batteries during your next Buc-ee’s excursion.
