AMEX Offers search bar

Amex Offers Has Finally Added a Search Function

As I’ve written about plenty of times before, Amex Offers — which are available on various American Express cards — can be a great way to save money or earn extra points. However, the platform has also had some quirks. For one, cardholders can only see 100 offers at a time, leading some deal-seekers to add every offer in hopes of getting more (note: I refrain from this practice for fear of Amex’s wrath). Another issue is that you could only scroll through the various offers as there was no way to search them. Well, that is, until now.

At long last Amex Offers has added a search tool. Now, when on a desktop cardholders can use this tool to find specific offers or enter other keywords. This ability joins the filters that were added two years ago. (I was honestly shocked it was that long too.)

While this search function is certainly nice, it’s not exactly perfect. For one, I don’t believe that this tool gets around the 100 offer limit. In other words, as far as I can tell, you’ll only be able to pull up offers already being served to you and not discover other ones that might be “buried” beyond your cap. Also, it’s not really clear how much of the offer’s text the tool is searching, so it’s hard to say just how much function it will have.

In my case, as someone who regularly looks at sites that share when new Amex Offers pop up, it’s great that I can now easily type in the retailer to see if I have said offer available to me. What’s more, if you’re looking for an offer with a certain spending requirement, it seems you can actually enter that price into the search bar to see what’s available. Both of these could be pretty useful IMHO.

So, now that the long hoped for search bar has arrived, what other tweaks would I like to see from Amex Offers? Well, one obvious one is the ability to remove Offers that don’t appeal to you. This could be done with a negative filter — or, even better, allow users to discard offers in order to replenish their 100 offer cap. I’m sure there’s a good reason why Amex doesn’t want to do this, but a boy can dream.

Overall, while I wouldn’t call this update game-changing, it is nice to finally have it. When used in conjunction with the category filters, I do think that this search tool will help people find Amex Offers that they’ll actually use. Plus, if nothing else, this development gives me hope that American Express will continue to improve its Amex Offer interface and enable cardholders to save even more.
